The waters themselves, mothers of what lives, wearing every obstacle away.

Apas are the waters honored as goddesses in the Vedic hymns, called mothers and purifiers, the element in which life begins. They cleanse what they touch and prevail not by force but by patience. Their mansion carries the invincible, wearing strength of water.

A collective attribution, the deified waters rather than a single figure; sometimes also rendered as Apah.
