The storm that breaks the heat, terrible in passing and kind in what it leaves.

Rudra is the fierce archer of the Vedic hymns, lord of storms and wild places, whose arrows bring fever and whose mercy brings medicine. The hymns approach him with awe, asking that his wrath pass by and his healing remain. Later tradition knows him as an early form of Shiva.
