Savitar is the solar deity of impulse and setting-in-motion, the golden-handed one who rouses the world each morning and stills it at dusk. The most revered verse of the Vedas, the Gayatri mantra, is addressed to him. He embodies skill, vivification, and the power that moves hands to their work.
