Yama
lord of dharma and the departed
TraditionVedic
The first to walk the far road, who now keeps its gate with perfect fairness.
In the Vedic hymns Yama is the first mortal to die, and so the first to find the path to the world of the ancestors, which he now governs. Later tradition honors him as Dharmaraja, the just king who weighs each life without favor. He stands for restraint, duty, and the discipline that gives life its shape.
