Lughnasadh is the festival of the first grain, named for Lugh of the long arm, the many-skilled god of the Tuatha De Danann, who held the first harvest games in honor of his foster mother Tailtiu. The year begins to give back what was planted, and the work of the harvest starts in earnest. It honors skill, labor, and the bargain between effort and reward.
