THE MORRIGAN
the great queen, of sovereignty, prophecy, and the crow

The crow over the field, naming what must be faced.

The Morrigan is the great queen of the Tuatha De Danann: sovereignty with wings. She walks battlefields as a crow, speaks prophecy over rivers, and in the tales is sometimes three at once, with Badb and Macha beside her. Before the great battle of Mag Tuired she meets the Dagda at the ford at Samhain, and the turning of the year is settled between them. She is not a gentle figure, and she is not meant to be.

On the Wheel Samhain, when the veil thins, is her night

Drawn from the Irish mythological cycle. These are living figures for many practitioners, and the entries speak of them with respect. Samhain, when the veil thins, is the night the stories give her.
