Brigid, daughter of the Dagda, is three gifts wearing one name: the fire of the poet's tongue, the fire of the smith's forge, and the fire of healing at the wells. The early glossaries describe three sisters called Brigit, one for each art, which is its own way of saying no single fire was enough for her. Her feast is Imbolc, the first stirring at winter's end, when the ewes come into milk and the year quietly turns toward the light.
