Swati is ruled by Vayu, god of wind and breath, and its nature is independent, adaptable, and restless. Like the young plant that survives the storm by bending, it thrives on flexibility, trade, and movement. Freedom is its air; it withers when confined.

The name is also translated as the sword, and the star is held in some texts to be the abode of the goddess Saraswati.
