The Third House

The House of the Moon's Road

Short roads, familiar faces, and the nightly lamp of the Goddess.

The third house, called Goddess for the Moon who rejoices there, governs siblings and kin, neighbors, short journeys, letters, and the everyday traffic of word and errand. Tradition also gives it worship of the lunar and popular kind, the shrines close to home rather than the far temples of the ninth.

When a planet stands here

The Moon here rejoices, at home among kin and constant small movement.

Mercury here fills the house with letters, lessons, and talk.

Saturn here may set distance or duty between siblings.

Thea in Greek. The Moon's joy here is the root of the name; the house sits below the horizon in the nocturnal half of the chart, fitting the night luminary.

A house is personal. It exists only in a birth chart, cast from your own horizon at your own hour; the sky holds no third house until someone is born under it. The kinship with Gemini is an analogy of order, not an identity.
