The Ninth House

The House of Long Journeys

The far road, the high teaching, and the Sun rejoicing above the world.

The ninth house is called God, the joy of the Sun, set high in the diurnal half of the chart. It governs long journeys and foreign lands, religion and philosophy, divination and dreams, and the learning that must be sought far from home. Where the third holds the near shrine, the ninth holds the temple at the end of the pilgrimage.

When a planet stands here

The Sun here rejoices, lending honor to learning and to travel.

Saturn here studies far from home, austere and thorough.

Mercury here makes the interpreter, carrying doctrine across borders.

Theos in Greek. The Sun's joy here places the day's luminary in the day half of the sky, and the house's sacred topics flow from that solar dignity.

A house is personal. It exists only in a birth chart, cast from your own horizon at your own hour; the sky holds no ninth house until someone is born under it. The kinship with Sagittarius is an analogy of order, not an identity.
