Iota Herculis

Iota Herculis

Unnamed, known by its Bayer letter. It stands at about 20° Sagittarius (tropical).

The foot set on the Dragon's head, the labor's quiet proof.

Iota marks the hero's foot, and in the classical figure that foot is planted near the head of Draco, the dragon of the garden of the Hesperides. Aratus and the star-name writers after him kept that detail, the kneeler treading on the serpent, victory held in place by weight alone. Little other traditional lore attaches to this star.

The foot-on-the-Dragon detail is genuine figure lore reported by Allen; the star itself carries no astrological delineation.
