The Fixed Stars
Muliphein
Gamma Canis Majoris, Muhlifain
The two distinguished by an oath, a name confused between stars. It stands at about 18° Cancer (tropical).
A modest star of the Dog's neck, carrying a name born of confusion.
Muliphein lies near the neck of the Great Dog and bears a name, from the Arabic al-muhlifain, the two who swear an oath, that history has muddled with the nearly identical Muhlifain of Gamma Centauri, so that the label wandered between stars. It is a blue-white giant of modest brightness. No settled planetary lore is handed down for it.
Its name has long been confused with a star in Centaurus; little lore of its own attaches to it.
