Mu Scorpii, Mu-1 Scorpii

From a Khoikhoi name read as 'the eyes of the lion', given with its companion Pipirima. It stands at about 4° Sagittarius (tropical).

Mu Scorpii is a naked-eye double whose two components, Mu-1 and Mu-2, carry the Khoikhoi names Xamidimura and Pipirima, a phrase read as the eyes of the lion. They stand in the raised coil of the Scorpion's tail, among the stars the Vedic reckoning gathers into Mula, the root nakshatra of the sting. The pair is bright enough to be split by a keen eye and has long been noticed as two lights standing close together.

Its companion Mu-2 bears the name Pipirima.
