The Fixed Stars

Kornephoros

Beta Herculis

The club bearer, from the Greek. It stands at about 1° Sagittarius (tropical).

The shoulder that carries the club, and the weight of the labor after it.

The brightest star of Hercules despite its Beta letter, marking one shoulder of the kneeling hero. Its Greek name simply describes the figure, the one who bears the club. Ptolemy's attribution of a Mercury nature in Robson belongs to the constellation as a whole rather than to this star alone, so we leave its own nature unclaimed.

No individual delineation in Robson; the Mercury character is the constellation's, not the star's.
