Zeta Aurigae, Hoedus I, Saclateni

One of the Haedi; the name's meaning is uncertain. It stands at about 20° Gemini (tropical).

The other young goat of the Haedi, dimming on its long slow cycle.

Zeta Aurigae is the other of the two Haedi, the young goats held beside Capella; its odd name Saclateni is of uncertain derivation and is also called Hoedus I. Like its companion it belonged to the storm-bringing Kids of classical weather lore. It is an eclipsing binary, an orange giant with a smaller partner that dims it on a long cycle.

Little traditional lore attaches to this star apart from the storm-omen of the Kids and its place in the figure.
