One of the Dioscuri, the immortal twin and boxer. It stands at about 23° Cancer (tropical).

The immortal of the twins, the boxer, who begged to share his deathlessness with his mortal brother. Robson gives it the nature of Mars: a spirited, brave and audacious character, but rash and given to violence, and in the old books tied to cruelty and poisons. A steady orange star, brighter than Castor though lettered Beta. With Castor it forms the mansion Al Dhira and the nakshatra Punarvasu, whose junction star it is.
