The Fixed Stars
Maasym
Lambda Herculis
The wrist, from the Arabic al-mi'sam. It stands at about 20° Sagittarius (tropical).
The wrist of the club hand, a name that wandered to the wrong joint and stayed.
Maasym means the wrist, though as Allen records, the name drifted in transmission and settled on a star that does not quite sit at the wrist of the figure, the way star names often slipped between copyists. It keeps the name anyway, a small monument to how the sky's words traveled. Little traditional lore attaches to this star beyond its name.
The name's placement is itself a transmission error noted by Allen; no astrological delineation attaches.
