Wezen

Delta Canis Majoris, Wesen

The weight. It stands at about 23° Cancer (tropical).

The heavy body of the Dog, low in the figure below Sirius.

Wezen takes its name from the Arabic al-wazn, the weight, and sits in the body of the Great Dog, a yellow-white supergiant so distant that its true brilliance is dimmed to modest brightness. The name may recall the labor of a star seen to heave itself up from the horizon. No settled planetary nature is handed down for it.

A named star of only modest traditional lore, known mainly for the meaning of its name and its place in the Dog's body.
