The Fixed Stars
Grafias
Beta Scorpii, a spelling of Graffias, Acrab
A variant spelling of Graffias; the alternate name Acrab is from the Arabic al-aqrab, the scorpion. It stands at about 3° Sagittarius (tropical).
A spelling of the crown-star at the Scorpion's head.
Grafias is one of several spellings, with Graffias and Acrab, of Beta Scorpii, the bright star that marks the head or forehead of the Scorpion. The Arabic root aqrab simply names the creature itself. With Dschubba and Pi Scorpii it forms the crown, the Arabic mansion Al Iklil, and it belongs to the nakshatra Anuradha. The star is itself a wide multiple. Little separate lore attaches to this spelling; it is the head-star under another name.
Registered elsewhere as Graffias; this entry records the variant spelling and its place at the head.
